Club DJ's and Wedding DJ's both play music, but the similarities end there!
Bride : “I want to have a DJ at our reception.”
Groom : “Oh no!! Do we really need a DJ?! I have been to so many receptions with DJ’s and everyone was so bored. The music was loud and sounded horrible and everyone left early, including the bride and groom!.”
Bride: “Yes we do need a DJ! I want to have a great reception and dance the night away.”
Groom: “We are definitely not going to pay a lot for a DJ because all they do is play music. Hopefully, we’ll find a decent one cheap and our guests won’t leave early.”
Bride: “Let’s do some shopping around and see what we can find.”
Let’s look at choosing a DJ and what their job entails.
When it comes to a DJ, most couples just think ‘they play music’ and often make the mistake of finding the cheapest one for the night’s entertainment. Yes, DJ’s do play music but usually at a club, or the radio staion, where their job is only to 'play music'.
Finding entertainment for your wedding reception is something that takes a little work, but it pays off in the end. And in a great way!
When choosing your entertainment, here are a few things to consider:
1. Are they willing to work with you to personalize your
reception or do they do the same thing they always do?
2. Does their personality work with yours or does it clash? If
there is an issue here, please walk away!!!!!
3. Are they in the price range you can afford? Keep in mind,
you get what you pay for. Most Bridal publications rate the
entertainment at, or near, the bottom of the priority list;
this should not be because the reception is just as
important as the Ceremony itself. Make it a memorable
occasion full of good memories.
4. Does your entertainment have a diverse library of music
and good professional audio equipment to entertain your
guests with?
5. If your entertainment has multiple systems, are you talking
to the entertainer who will be working at your event? If not,
insist on meeting with that person or keep shopping!!
6. Will your entertainment emcee your event and will they be
sure your event flows smoothly by working out an order of
ceremonies with you.
Peter Merry has coined the term 'Wedding Entertainment Director'. If your entertainment does not know what that is, you might want to keep shopping!!
